Are my parents too harsh?

Fortunately you won't be stuck like this forever. You will grow up and you will move away from home and if your parents don't learn how to behave a little more pleasantly they might be surprised at how seldom they see you. In a way you are fortunate because they are teaching you not to count on anyone else's respect or approval to make you feel good. If you learn that now you won't grow up tearing yourself apart trying to please everyone who criticizes you. I have listened to many adults whine about how nothing they ever did was good enough to please their parents. They either let that make them give up and be miserable or they went on and did what made them happy and became successful without parental appreciation or approval. It sounds like you are more grown up than your parents. Thems the cards you were dealt. How are you going to play them?
